The old window came out first and the rough opening was cleaned up and checked for square before anything new went near it. An opening that is out of square is the reason a replacement window binds, leaks, or never quite closes right, and it is far easier to correct with the hole empty.
The new Andersen unit was set in, shimmed plumb and level, fastened off, and sealed. Outside got new trim to finish it off and keep weather out of the joint.
